The Shawano County Private On-Site Waste Water Treatment System Ordinance requires a maintenance program for all private on-site wastewater treatment systems (POWTS).
Maintenance of the private on-site wastewater treatment system involves the pumping of the treatment tank(s) and the visual inspection of the soil absorption area (drainfield) or the inspection of treatment tank(s) and verification that sludge and scum occupy less than 1/3 of the capacity of the tank.
Maintenance shall be performed by a licensed master plumber, a licensed master plumber-restricted service, a certified POWTS inspector, a POWTS maintainer or a certified septage servicing operator under ch. NR 114.
It is the OWNER’S RESPONSIBILITY that maintenance be performed and that the appropriate information be submitted to the Shawano County Planning and Development Department.
**Please be informed that failure to have service completed and recorded in this office is in violation of the Shawano County Private On-Site Wastewater Treatment System Ordinance and will result in a $200.00 Special Charge being added to the parcel’s next property tax bill.**
