Permit Management System
Access to the permit management system requires a user name and password.

General
Permits will be issued by appointment between the hours of 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM Monday – Friday.
You can contact the Planning and Development office to set up an appointment at (715) 526-6766.
A majority of permits may require an on-site visit. This will be determined by the land use officer that you will be working with. Please note that the process may take up to 3 months, depending on permits and/or public hearings required. Please plan accordingly.


Land Use Permit:
A Land Use Permit is a permit issued by the Shawano County Zoning Department to verify compliance with the provisions of the current Zoning Ordinance and other applicable County ordinances before any activity listed under Section X.8.09(2) of the Shawano County Zoning Ordinance may commence. This is not the same as a “permitted use,” as described in Section X.2.02(1) of the Zoning Ordinance, which instead is a land use that is allowable by right within a particular zoning district.
 A completed Preliminary Land Use Application form will be required. A Staff member will specify what paper work is required for your appointment and can provide copies upon request.  Please call for an appointment to obtain a permit.

Conditional Use Permit:
A Conditional Use Permit may be required for a land use that is of a special nature due to its unique impact on surrounding uses, utilities, community character, transportation, and/or the environment.  As a result this requires approval of a conditional use permit prior to commencement of the use. This procedure will require a Public Hearing and longer timelines to acquire due to State posting requirements. 
Please call for an appointment. A filled out Information for Conditional Use, a site development plan page, detailed plot plan and other applicable pages will be required. A Staff member will specify what paper work is required for your appointment and can provide copies upon request.

Variance:
A Variance is an approval to depart from the literal requirements of the current Shawano County Zoning Ordinance, which may be granted by the Board of Adjustment per the procedures and standards of Section X.8.10 of the Shawano County Zoning Ordinance. This procedure will require a Public Hearing and longer timelines to acquire.  Please call for an appointment. A filled out Information for Variance, a site development plan page, detailed plot plan and other applicable pages will be required. A Staff member will specify what paper work is required for your appointment and can provide copies upon request.

Zone Change/Comprehensive Plan Amendments:
A Zone or Comprehensive Plan Amendment change may be required to comply with the Shawano County Zoning Ordinance and/or the Towns Comprehensive Plan.
