June 13, 2012 - Car Seat Inspection Station Now in Shawano
Shawano –The “Healthy Families in Shawano County” coalition now offers a free car seat inspection station in Shawano. These car seat “check-ups” allow parents and caregivers to work one on one with a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. The technician will help make sure the car seat is installed right and that the seat is the proper size for their child.
Technicians have received extensive training to help make sure car seats and booster seats are being used the right way and have not been recalled or expired. Statistics show that 3 out of 4 kids are not as secure in the car as they should be because their car seats are not being used correctly.
“Our goal is to make sure all parents and caregivers are securing their children (ages 0-12 yrs) in the proper seat for their age and size.” says Deb Zernicke, Public Health Nurse and member of the Healthy Families in Shawano County Coalition.
This free service is available to anyone who transports a child in their car including parents, grandparents, and expectant parents. Also, if parents or caregivers cannot afford a car seat they may qualify for a free seat.
Appointments are available every month at the Shawano Ambulance Station. Call the Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department for an appointment at 715-526-4808.
