General Information

The Shawano County Jail was completed in July 1994. It is 54,856 square feet with a rated capacity of 155 beds. Each cell is 90 square feet in size. The Jail has an average daily inmate population of 145. The Shawano County Work Release center opened in 1998. It has a rated capacity of up to 144 Huber/Work Release and minimum security inmates. ADP is currently around 90. Programs such as AA, NA, Religious Programming, Bible Study, FACES, Anger Management and GED are offered to the Jail inmates. The Jail / WRC employs a total of Fifty-one (51) staff: this includes a Jail Administrator; (2) two Facility Lieutenants; five (5) Sergeants; Thirty Six (36) Correctional Staff; One(1) Account Clerk II; Food Service Manager; four (4) Cooks; and, a Scanning Technician. The correctional staff of the Jail work a six (6) days on, three (3) day off rotation.
The goal of the Shawano County Jail is to safely and securely confine individuals in the least restrictive environment available. This, consistent with behavior, special needs and the severity of charges. Further, the Jail Division is committed to the ultimate release of persons confined, to the community, with a better physical and psychological perspective.
